Research consistently shows that parents are the single greatest influence on a young person’s career choice. During our parent presentation last week, Alana Kilmartin implored us as parents to be our child’s biggest ‘career fan’ — someone who has their back, believes in them and can help them find success. It has been a privilege meeting so many parents lately during pathway conversations with Year 10 students as they choose their subjects and go about making some foundational decisions for their future careers. My deep hope is that together we can be the kind of career advocates who build our children’s confidence and equip them to approach their futures with optimism. In this edition, we have articles about STEM (and why it is broader than you think), as well as a job spotlight on becoming a Civil Engineer. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you or your child would like to meet and discuss any work, subject or career related issues.
