Procedural Writing — Year 1 & 2 Denholm

During Term Two, students studied ‘God’s people in God’s World’. This unit covered Humanities and Social Science (HASS), Science and English.

Students participated in cooking activities to develop their understanding not only of other countries and the science of cooking, but also how to record the process through instructional texts.

Students discovered how mixtures changed when ingredients were combined and learnt that ingredients were added in a particular order. Through these ‘hands on’ activities, students could identify the ingredients and utensils required and also recognise the method of putting these ingredients together.

The writing process initially began with games and activities, followed by modelled and shared writing activities. These assisted students to develop the language skills required for instructional and procedural texts.

Exam Timetable Released

The Tasmanian Assessment Standards and Certification (TASC) examination timetable has been released. This can be downloaded from the TASC website. If you have any questions please contact Mrs Bonny Moroni.

2020 Subject Selection

Subject selection for current Year 9, 10 and 11 students for 2020 closes next week. An email with access to the subject selection portal has been sent to each student's primary parent/carer. Please contact Mrs Alison Whiteley for more information.

Student Satisfaction Surveys

Students completed the Christian Education National student satisfaction earlier this week. Next week our Year 7–12 students will be invited to participate in Calvin’s annual survey of teaching practice. We value student feedback on teacher practice, and an email with links to the surveys will be sent to students next week. Student participation is voluntary and submissions will remain anonymous. Please email Mrs Bonny Moroni if you have any questions relating to this process.

Vanuatu Trip 2019

Earlier this month our students returned from a mission trip to Vanuatu. The trip was to determine what needs existed on the Islands so that future trips could be initiated with a clear focus of meeting them.

Students met with the residents of Unakap Village on Nguna Island as well as those of Black Sands on Efate Island. Whilst in the villages, they were able to take the donated stationery items and sports equipment to three primary schools.

4 weeks to go!

Volunteers Required!

Oliebollen is not just the biggest event on the Calvin Calendar, it's a celebration for the whole Kingston community and we need your help! We'd love as many parents and carers to come and help out on a stall even if it's for a couple hours. Volunteering is easy; please follow this link to Signup Zone to get started. Get in early to choose where you'd like to volunteer.

White Elephant Stall

We'd love your clean usable second hand goods, clothing, and books for our White Elephant stall! From this TUESDAY these can be delivered directly to a storage container located in the Secondary School lower carpark. (Please note we cannot accept electrical items).

Book Week Reminder — Next Week!

In the Primary School this year, Calvin’s Book Week Parade will be held during assembly on Tuesday 20 August from 9.15am. All parents are invited to attend. Students are asked to dress as a character from a book.

The Secondary School will also be celebrating children’s literature at the Book Week Assembly with the Literary Character Costume event on Tuesday 20 August. We will be holding a Great Book Swap (supporting The Indigenous Literacy Foundation) on Thursday 22 August.
