After an incredible few weeks of career learning activities at Calvin, I am feeling humbled and grateful. We began with a careers workshop for Years 10–12, where we explored concepts of career design and values. Tyson Day from Arrive and Thrive guided students in discovering their Ikigai (‘reason for being’), developing a personal pitch, and considering the future of work and their role within it. Following this, we held our Life Library, with over sixty members of the community volunteering their time to share a huge range of career insights and experiences with students. The Senior Library was alive with conversation, and the looks of intense concentration on the faces of our students were gratifying to see. I would like to thank each and every one of our guests for giving up their time for this event and for being willing to share their knowledge and personal career stories. The value of these conversations for students simply cannot be overstated. Next week, Year 10 students will undertake the Morrisby Profile assessment in preparation for their pathway planning. Morrisby is a world-renowned platform that gives students a comprehensive picture of their vocational aptitudes, interests, and options. Once completed, students have lifetime access to their profile and can use this tool to support career decision-making and planning at every stage of their journey. Year 10 students will complete the profile during their PDP session next week. Further information will be sent to parents this week, and an information session to explain and unpack the results will be held in the library on Thursday 18 June. In this edition of Pathways Connections, we have articles about volunteering (a game changer for students), cadet youth programs, as well as a job spotlight on becoming a procurement manager.
