School Events

The Oliebollen Committee would like to thank all those who volunteered their time on Saturday to serve at the Oliebollen Festival. Our efforts have raised about $40,000 for our Community Engagement Committee to spend on items for our students and community building events.

We would particularly like to thank those who are stepping down from their roles as Stall Co-ordinators this year. Many thanks to Clancy Hartman who has led the Committee for 3 years. She has been ably assisted during this time by Erin Duggan who will also be stepping down. We thank you both so much for all the effort and dedication you have shown in making this event such a success for our School.

We would love to hear from you if you and a couple of friends would be interested in joining the Oliebollen Festival Committee next year, please contact us! It is a really great community event to be part of!

School Activities

Primary Footy Colours Day

On Friday 27 September we are celebrating the last day of term with Footy Colours Day. This is an opportunity for students to come dressed up in their favourite footy team or sports team colours for the day. A free sausage sizzle will be provided for all students.

Students who wear their footy colours are asked to bring a gold coin raising money for the Cancer Council.

We are looking for parent helpers to assist with the BBQ. If you are available and have a current WWVP card, please contact the Primary Office.

Secondary Co-curricular Term 4

The Co-curricular Program will look a bit different in Term 4 for Calvin secondary students!

The options available to Years 7 & 8 students are now available on the Calvin website. Selection of preferences will be held on Wednesday 25 September during Home Room via student laptops.

Year 9 students will not select a co-curricular activity for next term. Rather, they will be divided according to their Year 9 Extended Journey groups and will engage in activities designed to prepare them for the final camps in December.

Year 10 students will have two sessions of exam preparation on Thursday afternoons rather than joining a co-curricular activity. They will be given the choice to focus on English, Maths, Science or HASS for the two sessions.

Year 11 and 12 students will not participate in co-curricular sessions next term as they will be engaged in private exam preparation.

Helping Others

Salvos Winter Sleepout

On 5 September, some of our Year 11 and 12 students and teachers slept ‘rough’ as part of the Salvos Winter Sleepout.

Students had members of the Salvation Army come and share with them about the realities of homelessness and the ways we can assist.

The students are also raising funds to continue the vital work of the Salvation Army in this space. Their goal is $10,000 and they have already raised over $8,000. You are welcome to contribute via their page.

Thank you so much for partnering with us in supporting the work of the Salvation Army.

Music Tutor’s Concert

Our Primary student’s are privileged to have Music tutors available to teach them a variety of musical instruments, including piano, guitar and drums. Recently, they participated in a concert to show their families the wonderful skills they have been learning this year.

Congratulations!

Alliance Française de Hobart organises a French language competition which our students took part in. Well done to our winners and to all who took part!

From Monday to Wednesday this week, 4 teams represented Calvin at the High School Netball Championships. Teams competed hard and upheld Calvin values exceptionally well. Our 7/8 girls finished 6th with 3 wins and Year 8 boys tied for fourth with 3 wins and 2 draws. The highlight was the Year 8 boys game against Clarence where Moses hit a goal after the siren to tie up the score after a comeback for the ages. You couldn't ask for better sportsmanship from all Calvin students. A big thanks to Hanna Woolley and Tess Boonstra who both coached the 7/8 girls teams and Hanna double dipped and also coached Year 9 boys.

In Our Classrooms

The Olympics yielded a wealth of learning experiences in Year 3/4 H this term and helped celebrate the diversity of our student body.

A few weeks ago, Calvin played host to an inter school Chess competition.

Our Year 9 and 10 students had the privilege of a team from Bell Shakespeare sharing their love of ....... Shakespeare!

Out and About

Prep BH recently enjoyed an excursion led by Chloe, a Year 12 student. They learnt a lot about the bush God created.

A couple of weeks ago our Primary and Secondary Yarning Circle gathered together to learn from Trish Hodges from NITA (National Indigenous Training Academy)

We had four teams compete in the Tournament Of Minds Tasmania Final.
