Friday 26 May 2023 6:00-7:30pm

Members and families from the Calvin Community are invited to attend our Walking in the Light event.Join us for a self-guided light walk through our School Campuses, beginning on the Primary Campus and finishing on the Senior Campus where there will be oliebollen, hot dogs, hot spiced apple juice and cold drinks available for purchase. The evening will conclude on the main school oval with a fireworks display. Fireworks will kick off at 7.15pm! We'd love to see you there.This school community event is presented by the Calvin Community Engagement Committee.

We'd also love your assistance with this amazing event. Volunteers are required to assist with the following things:

Cooking and selling of oliebollen
Set up, selling and serving of hot dogs
Set up, selling and serving of warm spiced apple juice
Set up, selling and serving of cold drinks

Kinder and Year 7 Enrolments 2024

We are currently processing applications for Kinder and Year 7 in 2024.

If you are a school family and have a child eligible for Kinder or Year 7 next year, please contact enrolments@calvin.tas.edu.au to discuss their enrolment.

If you are currently enrolled in Year 6 at Calvin, you automatically have a place in Year 7 in 2024.

School Prayer Group

Each Thursday morning at 8.30am a group of parents and staff meet in the Principal’s Office to pray for our school and our community. They would love to welcome more people to the group. It doesn’t need to be a weekly commitment, just turn up when you can.

PRIMARY NEWS

Christian Schools Tasmania Cross Country

Tuesday 16 May 10.00am – 1.30pm

We're delighted to announce the return of our ALL SCHOOLS Cross Country. This will include all students from Year 3 to 6 from Calvin and Channel. The event will hosted at Channel Christian School in Margate.

Parents and Carers from Calvin and Channel are most welcome and encouraged to attend this event. A coffee van with FREE hot drinks will be available throughout the day. We'd love to see you there!

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform (including Calvin sports
t-shirt) plus an item in their house colour, if desired, such as a ribbon, wristband, socks etc. They will also require their warm jackets, lunch and a water bottle.

All students will attend a practice session at Channel Christian School on Friday 12 May. They will need to wear sports uniform for this also.

Kinder to Year 2 Cross Country

Our Kinder to Year 2 students will be participating in their own Cross Country on Wednesday 17 May commencing at 9.30am on the Senior Campus oval. Students are asked to wear their sports uniform with their house t-shirt.
T-shirts may be purchased from the Primary Office, payment can be made via Qkr or credit card (no cash is accepted).

Families are welcome to attend.

Year 2 Harrison

This term, students from
Year 2 Harrison have been exploring length and area.

They have been practicing making estimations, then checking the actual measurements.

Students have been testing areas through different strategies; including rearranging complex shapes, comparing lengths, and counting squares of a grid.

They then brought order to the chaos, as God does in our own lives.

The Coronation of King Charles III

Our students have been learning about the coronation of King Charles III as an event of national significance. Many have seen or heard about the coronation and had opportunities through devotions or class discussions to talk about it. These images are from

SECONDARY NEWS

Mid Year Exams - Years 10, 11 and 12

Mid-Year Exams for Years 10-12 students will be held from Tuesday 13 to Friday 16 June.

Year 10 will have an exam for English, Maths, Science and HASS but will remain in regular classes before and after each exam. Year 10 Exam Timetable

Year 11 and 12 students will have an exam for most TASC 3 and 4 subjects but no formal classes will be held during the exam period. Year 12 Exam Timetable

Student Survey

All Calvin secondary students will participate in a survey this Thursday morning during Home Room. The survey has been developed by the UTAS Faculty of Education and will enable the gathering of data about student engagement at Calvin.

This data will support staff in their Professional Learning during Term 2, as we are exploring best practice around behaviour management in secondary schooling.

Year 10 Camp on Maria Island was spectacular!

Highlights included sublime sunsets, wandering baby wombats, questionable cooking, wave riding dolphins and a long, long bike ride.

One group even did a 3 day hike to Haunted bay on the islands deep south. It was a terrific experience for the whole class.

Last week Year 9 Food Technology had the opportunity to learn about agriculture, produce and how food goes from paddock to plate. They went to Grandvewe Cheese to hear from master cheese maker Diane Ray and Will, chief fermentation expert and sheep handler.

The students learnt about what it looks like to operate an artisan manufacturing company.

Regulating bodies, auditing, waste products and even noisy diesel generators were all part of the discussion. Students were able to taste the incredible cheeses made with sheep milk.

All School Mountain Bike Competitions

On Friday 5th May, Mr. Matthews and Mr. de Puit took a group of ten Calvin students to Trevallyn NRA for the 2023 State All School Mountain Bike Championships. Along with almost 400 other students from all around the state, the Calvin group raced in two formats; a Cross Country lap race and a timed downhill enduro stage. Despite the wet and cold conditions, our students should be commended for the effort, attitude and grit that they demonstrated. A special thank you to Mr. Bosker and Mrs. Moroni for their contributions to the day, covering our entries and lunch for the team. We are also thankful to God for safe travel up and down the Midlands Highway and no injuries whilst riding.

We look forward to continuing our regular Mountain Biking Co-Curricular for the remainder of this year and building towards an even bigger Calvin team for next year's event. The same event will be held at the start of Term 2 next year.

On Friday 12 May, students from Years 7 - 12 will take part in the "Do it for Dolly" day. Students bringing a donation of $2 are permitted to wear free dress to school and are strongly encouraged to wear something blue. There will be a bake sale during recess and lunch outside the Library.

Funds raised from this day will be given to "Dolly's Dream" - an Australian foundation that has been formed to raise awareness amongst young people to encourage safe and kind interactions with others, especially online.
