Creating Positive and Inclusive Toilet Spaces at Calvin Junior CampusParents may have noticed the new toilet facilities recently introduced on the Calvin Junior Campus. These spaces have been designed to be light, airy, clean, welcoming, and comfortable for all students. What many families may not realise is that considerable thought, learning, and planning have gone into our approach to toileting and toilet environments across the Junior Campus. Our specialist Learning Enrichment Aide who focuses on practical supports for Neurodiverse students, Mrs. Sarah Woolley, has been working closely with Leadership and the Learning Enrichment Team to review and improve toilet accessibility throughout the Campus. This project has focused on ensuring that toilet spaces are supportive and accessible for all students, including those who may be sensitive to noise, lighting, smells, or other sensory experiences. This work has included visual guides, adjustable footstools, toilet spaces with reduced sensory stimulation and hand-drying options for students who find hand dryers overwhelming. A special thank you to Sarah Woolley for her leadership of this important project and her ongoing commitment to student wellbeing and inclusion. In addition to this, all of our Early Years teachers and teacher assistants have recently completed professional learning in toileting best practice with Lewina Schrale, founder and Principal of PANDA.
