Footy, Fellowship and Community

It is always great to see our school community come together to embrace opportunities to learn, connect and celebrate.

One of the highlights this term is our Primary Footy Colours Day on Friday 18 September. I am looking forward to seeing our students, families and staff proudly wearing their footy colours and enjoying all that the day has to offer.

However, Footy Colours Day is about much more than wearing our favourite team colours. It provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to build relationships with their peers and engage across year levels. This year, our older students will be joining our younger classes in PE sessions with Mr Hartog for a range of football activities.

These moments are particularly valuable in a school community, as they provide opportunities for our older students to demonstrate leadership, encouragement, patience and service to our younger students. These are qualities that reflect our Christian values and remind us of the importance of looking beyond ourselves and using our gifts to encourage and serve others.

I look forward to seeing our older students embrace this opportunity to be positive role models as our younger students enjoy learning, playing and connecting with them.

We will begin the day with a special Footy Breakfast at 7.15am in the Multi Purpose Hall for our Year 3–6 students and their families. For $10 per person, families can enjoy a bacon and egg roll, some fellowship and a special message from the Tasmania Devils VFL football captain Robbie Fox.

Robbie will share some of his experiences of football, leadership, teamwork and community. It will also be a great opportunity to hear about the important role that faith plays in his life.

I encourage our Year 3–6 families to come along, wear their footy colours and enjoy this special morning together. Whether you are a serious footy fan or just enjoy being part of the community fun, there will be something for everyone.

As we continue to barrack for our footy teams (those who are left!) and look forward to the day, may we remember that the greatest victories are not always found on the scoreboard, but in how we show God’s love by encouraging, including and serving others.
