At the Heart…
At the heart of a Christian school is something deeper than academic achievement alone — it is the intentional cultivation of a Christ-centred community.
While the Oxford Dictionary might define a community as a group of people sharing common characteristics or living in the same place, a Christian community goes further. It is a living expression of the body of Christ — where each person is known, valued, and encouraged to grow in both faith and love.
In Hebrews 10:24–25 we read:
‘And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.’
“This kind of community is only possible through strong, ongoing partnerships between home and school.”
These verses remind us that Christian community is not simply a nice addition to our lives — it is essential. In a culture that often prioritises individualism and self-sufficiency, we at Calvin aim to provide an environment where mutual encouragement, growth, and shared responsibility are central. This kind of community is only possible through strong, ongoing partnerships between home and school. It’s through connection, fellowship, and a shared commitment to Christ that true community flourishes.
With this in mind, I would love to highlight a few upcoming opportunities that help build and strengthen our Calvin community:
Thursday 15 May – Life Library
We’re excited to launch this new initiative, where Calvin Alumni and other members of our wider community will share their career journeys with our Years 9 – 12 students. It is a wonderful opportunity to inspire and inform as students consider their own pathways.
Thursday 15 May – CST Years 3 – 6 Cross Country Carnival
Students from across our four Primary schools will come together—not just to compete, but to connect with peers their own age and grow in school spirit and community.
Friday 23 May – Walking in the Light
A special evening celebrating Christ at the centre of all we do. This year’s theme is Psalms, and it promises to be a meaningful and joyful time together.
Thursday 29 May – Discover Calvin Secondary Evening
A valuable event for prospective Year 7 and 11 students (2026 entry) and their families. Come and explore what life is like at Calvin, meet some of our teachers, and connect with future peers.
Of course, these are just a few examples. Community at Calvin is seen and experienced in many ways, every day—and we’re grateful for the part each of you plays in building it.
